PhD Fellowship in Synthesis of Hybrid Biocatalysts

Publish date 14/07/2020
Entity POLYMAT & CIC biomaGUNE
Sector of Activity
Description

A PhD Fellowship in a collaborative project between the group of Dr. Ana Beloqui at the Basque Center for Macromolecular Design and Engineering, POLYMAT Fundazioa (www.polymat.eu), and the group of Prof. Aitziber L. Cortajarena (Biomolecular Nanotechnology Lab at CIC biomaGUNE).

This collaborative project aims to design and fabricate hybrid catalytic biomaterials with different levels of complexity, in order to tackle one pot concurrent reactions using multifunctional protein-polymer hybrids as artificial biocatalysts. For this purpose, new approaches will be developed based on the combination of the experience of the two groups involved: the expertise of Prof. Cortajarena in protein engineering for the generation of protein-based functional hybrids, in particular protein-nanoclusters hybrids; and the expertise of Dr. Beloqui in protein-polymer hybrids for the synthesis of catalytic hydrogels. The project is highly multidisciplinary and combines research involving biochemistry, protein chemistry, bioinorganic chemistry, (bio)catalysis, and applied polymer chemistry.
The project will be carried out at POLYMAT and CIC biomaGUNE, two vibrant multidisciplinary and international research institutes in San Sebastian, Spain. They offer excellent working conditions and is well equipped with instrumentation and facilities.

Required qualifications and experience.
Applicants must have a BSc and MSc in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biophysics or a related discipline. Candidates that are in the process of their Master thesis defense in the next 3 months will also be considered. The candidate is expected to work in a multidisciplinary and an international environment. Good command of written and spoken English is a must .

Applications should be uploaded via this form or addressed to Dr. Ana Beloqui Elizazu and sent via email in one single PDF to ana.beloquie@ehu.eus before the 10.09.2020 including:
(i) a cover letter highlighting their interest in the position.
(ii) curriculum vitae.
(iii) a short description of previous research (1-2 Pages).
(iv) the names and contact addresses (e-mail) of two academic referees.
Please note that because of the large number of applications expected, we will not be able to give individual feedback to unsuccessful applications.
POLYMAT has obtained the ‘HR Excellence in Research award‘. The award reflects our commitment to continuously improve our human resource policies in line with the European Charter for Researchers, the Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers and our commitment to achieve fair and transparent recruitment and appraisal procedures.
